Vance Denounces Talk of Sending Iran’s Enriched Uranium to Russia as Never Our Plan

According to a report made by Anadolu English on Wednesday, 20 May, 2026, the Vice President of the United States of America, JD Vance while speaking to reporters at the White House, said such a proposal has never been part of the US administration’s planning, saying “That is not currently our plan, that has never been our plan. I’ve seen some reporting on that. I don’t know where it comes from, but the president is going to continue to negotiate a deal, so that is not currently the plan of the United States government.”…....

He also characterized the reported proposal as unlikely to gain traction with either side, saying “The Iranians have not raised it. My sense is that’s not something the Iranians would be particularly excited about, and I know the president isn’t particularly excited about it either. But who knows, I’m not going to make pre-commitments in a negotiation on any particular topic.”

It was gathered that the latest remarks of the American Vice President came in response to a report by Saudi state-owned network Al Hadath, which cited an updated Iranian proposal suggesting that the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei would be ready to transfer its enriched uranium to Russia instead of the United States under certain conditions.

His comments that such a proposal has never been part of the US administration’s planning regarding the nuclear ambition of the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran, suggested that while the specific uranium-to-Russia scenario is off the table, the broader diplomatic process remains fluid.

Vance’s dismissal of the idea also suggested that the Trump administration remained focused on more direct mechanisms to constrain Tehran’s nuclear program rather than outsourcing the issue to Moscow.
