The elderly man passed away early this morning in the very house that had been built for him, shortly after prayers and blessings were offered by supporters.

“I’m heartbroken 💔 😢 😭 Our Mzee from Gavalagi village is dead 😭….Death, why?” an emotional Keverenge shared the heartbreaking update on his Facebook page.

Community members say the timing of his death has left them in deep shock, coming just as hope had begun to rise that Mzee Ombeva would finally enjoy comfort and dignity in his final chapter of life.

Those involved in the project recalled that he had remained calm and grateful throughout the process, often expressing faith and appreciation despite his frailty.

The home, which had symbolised a new beginning, has now become a place of mourning.

Residents who had gathered to celebrate the transformation are now instead consoling each other, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
