Wema Bank one-day MD unveils cash rewards for children

As part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, Wema Bank has officially unveiled an array of new cash rewards, financial literacy programs, and academic incentives for Nigerian children through its Royal Kiddies account and ALAT Xplore platform.

The bank’s newly crowned 2026 One-Day MD/CEO, 10-year-old Chinmamanda Diamond Ozoakpata, announced the new incentives on Monday.

Stepping into the executive shoes of Managing Director Moruf Oseni for the Children’s Day special event, Ozoakpata’s first official act in office was signing off on packages specifically tailored for youth empowerment and financial growth.

The newly introduced initiatives target children across different age categories, primarily benefiting active holders of the Wema Bank Royal Kiddies Account and the ALAT Xplore

The bank said the programmes are aimed at promoting financial literacy, rewarding academic excellence, encouraging innovation and supporting leadership development among children.

One of the major incentives announced is a year-long birthday cash reward for Royal Kiddies account holders.

Under the initiative, children turning five years old between May 2026 and May 2027 will receive N5,000, while those turning 10 within the same period will get N10,000 automatically.

Wema Bank also stated that children who already turned five or 10 before May 2026 this year would still receive the reward this month, provided they hold active Royal Kiddies accounts.

The bank further announced a N100,000 reward for each of the top 100 performers in the National Common Entrance Examination.

According to the bank, the initiative will begin in June 2026 and beneficiaries must hold Royal Kiddies accounts to qualify.

As part of efforts to deepen financial education for children, Wema Bank also launched “Money Adventures,” a financial literacy book targeted at children aged six and above.

The publication is designed to introduce children to saving culture, money management and responsible financial habits in a simple and engaging format.

The bank said copies of the book would be made available to children with active or newly activated Royal Kiddies accounts.

For teenagers, Wema Bank unveiled the Evolve School Tour STEM Challenge through its ALAT Xplore platform.

The programme, targeted at secondary school pupils aged 13 to 17, will run across six schools nationwide with existing STEM programmes.

According to the bank, the initiative will feature practical STEM competitions and school engagements aimed at promoting innovation, technology awareness, financial literacy and responsible savings culture.

Participants are also expected to compete for monetary prizes at the end of the challenge.

Wema Bank said eligible participants must be ALAT Xplore customers within the approved age bracket and enrolled in participating schools with active STEM programmes.

The lender noted that while it had consistently organised Children’s Day initiatives over the years, the latest package marked the first time its programme would run throughout an entire year.

The bank added that the combination of long-term rewards, academic incentives, financial literacy resources and nationwide school engagements reflects its growing commitment to supporting children beyond ceremonial celebrations.
