In a video shared by AIT, Adekanmbi said Gowon once said that God increases his lifespan whenever there is a false rumor of his death. He said he personally called Gowon on the phone when he heard rumors about Gowon’s death one day. He said Gowon joking asked him if he wanted to speak with a dead man.
In Adekanmbi’s words: “General Gowon has a very rich sense of humor born out of an officers pragmatic approach to life. He believes that no soldier dies unless he has his name on a bullet. He said God adds 10 more years to his life each time rumors spread that he had died. The last time the rumors gained ground, I called him and the first thing he said to me was, ‘Dotun, do you want to speak with a dead man too?’”
