An Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo has sentenced a 50-year-old man, Ime Edet Akpan, to 21 years imprisonment for assaulting and impregnating a 14-year-old girl.
The convict, a married tricycle operator and father of five, admitted to the offence during court proceedings. However, the court rejected his defence and handed down a 21-year prison sentence.
A High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has sentenced 50-year-old Ime Edet Akpan to 21 years imprisonment for assaulting and impregnating a 14-year-old girl.
The convict, a married tricycle operator popularly known as a keke rider and a father of five, was sentenced on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
According to details shared by judiciary reporter Harrison Essien, the incident occurred in Nung Udoe, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, at the residence of Akpan’s mistress.
The court heard that Akpan had visited his partner’s residence but found her absent. He then targeted the 14-year-old neighbour while she was bathing.
During the trial, Akpan admitted to the offence, telling the court:
“I held her and had unlawful c@rnal knowledge of her and there was nobody in the compound, now that she is pregnant, I will take care of her until she put to bed.”
Despite the admission, the court rejected his defence and found him guilty of the offence.
Justice subsequently sentenced the Uyo Local Government Area native to 21 years imprisonment.
