Nafisat Hammed, the estranged wife of actor Akin Olaiya, has broken her silence regarding the marriage, which lasted less than a year.

A widely circulated letter, purportedly signed by the actor and appearing on social media, confirmed the dissolution of the marriage.
The actor, however, did not post the letter on his own social media pages, casting doubt on whether the union had truly ended. But Nafisat dispelled all uncertainty in a viral video obtained by PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday, confirming she had left the marriage for good.
Setting the record straight, she levelled some allegations against her ex.
“Like yesterday, I saw what was trending on social media. A lot of people were voicing their own sides of the story without knowing the facts. But I am here to tell my side,” Nafisat noted.
“Three months ago, I left my marriage because I was in pain and mistreated. I felt I did not matter.
“Nobody prays to stay in a marital home that involves violence. Regarding the divorce letter circulating on social media, everything is quite chaotic. In reality, my husband and I have not been together for a long time—since last year.”
She added that she kept the details of her private life strictly confidential for as long as she remained with the actor.
“That is something I would never do on social media. But I want people to understand that it does not make sense to say that I just packed up and left without cause, simply for my own enjoyment. That is not possible. You should all consider whether that makes sense. All I can say is that I handled it,” she added.
Nafisat added that she surrendered everything that transpired between her and her ex-husband to Almighty God, whom she described as the sole controller of all affairs.
She further alleged that Olaiya betrayed her by marrying one of her close friends.
“Imagine, after all that mistreatment, the pain, and everything, the husband ends up marrying your own best friend. What does that mean? It is because I am not the type of person who will just come and tell my side of the story so openly. I am not used to it … in our culture, we are not trained that way. We cannot just come and expose someone.
“Regarding the claims on social media that he would drag me out because I have an infection—I do not know where that is coming from, or if he is the one spreading such rumours.
“All I can say is that my husband and I are no more [together]. The two people I trusted ended up betraying me; they really disappointed me.”
Nafisat revealed she had compelling reasons to walk away from the marriage, claiming the actor had ulterior motives for his involvement with her friend.
“It is not a big deal. That is what he decided to do, and that is what he has in mind. I do not want to put myself in his shoes, as we are no longer together. I am praying for a good future for myself, and I choose my peace and happiness over everything. Thank God I am living my own life.”
