Alimosho Local Government has recorded a major milestone in its environmental sanitation campaign with the successful execution of the maiden enforcement operation under ‘Project Iron Shield’, leading to the arrest of 10 suspected environmental offenders.
The operation, which was carried out overnight on June 11, 2026, covered strategic locations including the Egbeda Road Corridor, Shasha Axis, and Dopemu Under Bridge. It was designed to curb indiscriminate refuse dumping and reinforce environmental discipline across the local government area.
According to the authorities, the suspects were apprehended while allegedly disposing of refuse at unauthorised locations. The Local Government disclosed that they would be prosecuted in line with existing environmental and public health laws, stressing that public spaces would no longer be tolerated as illegal dumping grounds.
‘Project Iron Shield’ is a sustained environmental enforcement initiative established to eliminate refuse heaps, dismantle illegal dumpsites, and promote a cleaner and healthier environment throughout Alimosho.
The council also issued a stern warning to property owners, residents, and commercial operators who have deliberately failed to pay statutory waste management bills, stating that defaulters would equally face legal action.
Speaking on the operation, the Head of the Task Force and Head of Legal Services, Mr. Taiwo Onayinka, described the exercise as a practical demonstration of the environmental renewal agenda of the Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson.
According to him, “A clean environment is not built by speeches but by collective responsibility and firm enforcement. Where persuasion fails, the law must prevail. It is no longer business as usual for environmental offenders in Alimosho.”
Onayinka noted that the ‘Project Iron Shield’ team comprises armed personnel drawn from various government security agencies working alongside Environmental Health and Sanitation Officers of the Local Government. He added that the team remains committed to ensuring environmental cleanliness, public order, and sustainable sanitation practices across all communities in Alimosho.
The Local Government reaffirmed that the enforcement exercise would continue on a sustained basis until environmental cleanliness becomes a defining feature of the council area, urging residents to embrace responsible waste disposal and comply with all environmental regulations.
Officials maintained that the initiative is part of broader efforts to protect public health and create a safer, cleaner, and more prosperous Alimosho.
