ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ CLOSING: Florida to Shut Down Controversial Migrant Detention Facility Amid Soaring Costs

Florida’s controversial migrant detention facility known as “Alligator Alcatraz” is set to shut down, with contractors instructed to begin a full demobilization of the site, CBS reports. Officials expect the facility to be largely cleared within days.

The closure comes as operating costs have climbed to an estimated $1.2 billion. The facility, championed by Gov. Ron DeSantis and previously praised by President Trump, was built in the Florida Everglades to support immigration detention efforts.
