Boko Haram Frees 416 Captives Abducted From Ngoshe Community in Borno

Maiduguri, Borno State – June 7, 2026. In a major development in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly released 416 women and children who were abducted from Ngoshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The release of the captives was confirmed by community leaders and youth representatives in Borno South, bringing relief to families who had spent months waiting for news about their loved ones.

The victims were among hundreds of residents kidnapped when heavily armed insurgents invaded Ngoshe earlier this year. The attack forced many residents to flee their homes while dozens were taken into captivity by the terrorists.

According to local sources, the freed captives regained their freedom on Friday, June 6, 2026, after spending several months in captivity. Most of those released are women and children who were reportedly held in difficult conditions during their time with the insurgents.

President of the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA), Samaila Kaigama, confirmed the development and described it as a significant breakthrough for affected families and the community at large. He expressed gratitude that the captives were finally reunited with their relatives after months of uncertainty and fear.

The circumstances surrounding the release remain unclear, as security agencies and government authorities have yet to provide detailed information regarding how the hostages secured their freedom. There has also been no official confirmation on whether negotiations or other arrangements played a role in the release.
