Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze is set to return to AC Milan after Fulham FC opted against activating his purchase option following his season-long loan spell in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old winger joined Fulham in September 2025 in search of regular playing time after struggling for minutes in Italy, with the move initially viewed as a chance to rebuild his career in England.
Mixed loan spell in London
Chukwueze featured 24 times across all competitions for Fulham, including 23 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 1,117 minutes.
While he showed flashes of quality, Fulham’s technical staff concluded that his output did not justify the reported €24m-€30m permanent transfer fee.
The winger also spent much of the season as a rotational option, with 13 of his league appearances coming from the bench under manager Marco Silva.
Strong spell not enough to convince Fulham
Despite a productive run between November and January, where he contributed two goals and three assists in six matches, consistency remained an issue throughout the campaign.
Fulham had initially viewed the loan as a potential long-term solution, especially given his link-up with fellow Nigerians Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, but ultimately decided against a permanent deal.
Milan future uncertain as transfer window approaches
With Fulham stepping away, Chukwueze now returns to Milan, where his long-term future remains unclear.
Reports suggest the Serie A side are open to offers as part of a broader squad restructuring ahead of the new season, with the winger no longer viewed as central to the club’s plans.
Interest is already emerging from England, with clubs such as Everton FC reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of a possible summer move.
Other Premier League sides are also believed to be tracking the situation as Chukwueze evaluates his next career step following an inconsistent but experience-rich spell in London.
