The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Tuesday, 9 June, 2026 disclosed that a commercial driver lost his life in a multi-vehicle collision that occurred along the Lagos-Apapa Expressway, reports thegazellenews.com.
LASTMA Public Relations Officer Adebayo Taofiq, who made this through a statement issued on Tuesday, 9 June, 2026, said that the incident involved a commercial minibus and a Toyota Tundra vehicle.
According to Taofiq, the driver died from the injuries sustained during the accident.
“Preliminary investigations conducted by security personnel at the scene revealed that the driver of the commercial minibus sustained grievous injuries and died instantly due to the devastating impact of the collision, LASTMA image -maker said, adding that the wreckage of the vehicles was removed from the road and handed over to the police for further investigation.
“The vehicles were thereafter handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for exhaustive investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the crash, with a view to determining liability and facilitating any necessary legal proceedings.
“Notwithstanding the significant disruption occasioned by the incident, the prompt intervention of LASTMA officers, coupled with the deployment of effective traffic management strategies, ensured the expeditious restoration of free vehicular movement along the affected corridor.”
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reacting on the sad development, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased while admonishing motorists on the need to always drive with caution.
“The General Manager of LASTMA conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and admonished motorists, particularly commercial transport operators, to exercise heightened caution, maintain unwavering compliance with extant traffic regulations and cultivate a culture of responsible driving at all times,” Taofiq said in the statement..
