The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Mayoral Candidate for Ayamelum Local Government Area, Mgbechi Emmanuel Igwebuike (Evang.), has urged Nigerians to remain committed to the ideals of democracy, unity, and people-centered governance as the nation marks Democracy Day.
In a goodwill message to the people of Ayamelum and Nigerians at large, Igwebuike described Democracy Day as a significant occasion for reflecting on the sacrifices and resilience of citizens who fought for democratic governance in the country.
According to him, democracy goes beyond the conduct of elections and must be reflected in service delivery, accountability, citizen participation, and leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
The APGA mayoral candidate reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies that would empower youths, support women, and promote sustainable development across communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area.
While acknowledging the progress recorded in Nigeria’s democratic journey, he noted that several challenges still require collective efforts and responsible leadership to overcome.
Igwebuike called on citizens to continue championing transparency, justice, unity, and active participation in governance, stressing that the future of the country depends on the shared commitment of both leaders and the people.
He further encouraged residents of Ayamelum to remain hopeful and steadfast in their belief that democracy can deliver freedom, progress, and prosperity for all.
The APGA flagbearer concluded by praying for the continued peace and development of Ayamelum Local Government Area, Anambra State, and Nigeria as a whole.
“Let us strengthen our faith in Nigeria and our determination to build an Ayamelum that works for all,” he said.
Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day annually on June 12 to commemorate the nation’s democratic journey and honor those who contributed to the restoration and sustenance of democratic governance.
