Azerbaijan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry decried the Israeli government’s decision to recognize the ‘Armenian genocide’, in a statement published Monday.
“The decision by the Israeli government concerning the so-called ‘Armenian genocide’ is a matter of serious concern,” the statement said.
“The distortion of the historical facts surrounding the events of 1915, and the reduction of a complex historical issue to a political decision without a sound legal or scholarly basis, are unacceptable,” the statement continued.
The statement said that the move by Israel does not contribute to ‘reconciliation’ or ‘mutual understanding’ between the two countries but rather deepens divisions and undermines the last peace, and the Azerbijani government called on Israel to reconsider its decision.
This is a developing story.
