Fresh Panic As Mysterious Odour Hits Ijebu-Ode School Again, Students Hospitalised

Residents of Ijebu-Ode were thrown into fresh panic on Wednesday after a strange and offensive odour reportedly resurfaced at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, leaving several students and staff members hospitalised.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the incident occurred during school hours, when both students and teachers suddenly perceived a pungent smell that triggered discomfort, breathing difficulties and widespread panic within the school premises.

Eyewitnesses said some affected students and staff were immediately rushed to General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where they received urgent medical attention.

The latest episode has heightened anxiety among parents and residents, particularly as it is not the first occurrence in the area.

In April, no fewer than 30 students were hospitalised following a similar incident linked to an unidentified substance within the same school.

Concerns escalated further in recent weeks after more than 100 students from different schools in Ijebu-Ode, including Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, were reportedly affected by exposure to a yet-to-be-identified substance, prompting emergency interventions by health officials and school authorities.

Parents who stormed the school premises on Wednesday expressed outrage and fear over what many described as a recurring environmental or public health threat.

They called on the Ogun State Government and relevant regulatory agencies to launch a thorough investigation and urgently implement measures to prevent further occurrences.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities, including environmental experts and emergency management agencies, had yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the incident.

Residents, however, have been urged to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.

The repeated incidents have intensified concerns over environmental safety in schools across Ijebu-Ode, with stakeholders demanding swift action to uncover the source of the mysterious odour and ensure the safety of students, teachers and the wider community.
