Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, has died after a long illness.
The lawmaker died on Friday in Abuja, marking the end of his years of public service and representation.
In response to the news, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep sadness over the death of the federal member, characterizing it as a big loss for the state and country.
In a condolence letter delivered through his spokeswoman, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor claimed that Tongo was a seasoned public servant and grassroots politician who dedicated his life to helping his people and advancing Gombe State’s development.
According to the governor, the late member distinguished himself through a variety of constituency projects, humanitarian interventions, and efforts aimed at improving the lives of his constituents.
Tongo’s dedication to public service, modesty, and accessibility gained him many people’s respect and appreciation, he said.
“Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo was a dedicated grassroots leader whose contributions to community development and public service earned him the respect and admiration of many people. “His death is a tremendous loss to our state and the nation,” the governor says.
Governor Yahaya further stated that the dead would be remembered for his passion to constituency development and unshakable commitment to the people he served.
He prayed for the soul of the congressman and requested Allah to give his family, political associates, and constituents the strength they needed to suffer the loss.
The lawmaker’s passing has left his constituency and political friends in sadness, with colleagues and stakeholders around the country likely to pay respect.
