‘I Will Remain Faithful to My Duties’ — Adams Oshiomhole Speaks on NNPCL Controversy

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has defended his controversial remarks about the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), insisting he remains committed to his responsibilities despite criticism from various quarters.

Speaking on the floor of the Senate during the ongoing National Assembly investigation into the state-owned oil company, Oshiomhole dismissed concerns over his comments and maintained that his actions were guided by his oversight duties.

“Even if the whole world condemns me, I am free and will remain faithful to my duties,” the former Edo State governor declared.

The senator was responding to allegations that he had described officials of the NNPCL as “a bunch of criminals and thieves” during proceedings related to the probe.

Oshiomhole clarified that his remarks were made in the context of a heated oversight process sparked by audit queries involving alleged financial discrepancies said to exceed ₦210 trillion.

The Senate investigation into the NNPCL has attracted significant public attention, with lawmakers scrutinising the company’s financial records and operations amid growing calls for accountability and transparency in the management of Nigeria’s oil resources.
