Imota LCDA debunks kidnap, killing report in school

Abimbola Jimoh, Vice Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, has debunked reports that two pupils were kidnapped and one killed in a school in the area, calling the claim false and misleading.

Jimoh told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday that there was no record of such an incident in any school within the council area.

She said security agencies remained vigilant and committed to safeguarding lives and property.

She said the rumour had caused unnecessary panic among residents and parents, stressing that schools in Imota remained safe for teaching and learning.

“There is nothing of such in Imota. There was no kidnapping of pupils and no child was killed in any of our schools.

“We have security personnel on ground and everything is under control. Security is everybody’s business and we will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of our people,” she said.

The vice chairman urged residents to verify information before sharing it on social media and other platforms, warning that false information could cause fear and disrupt public peace.

“Gbedu TV, which circulated the report, has acknowledged that the information was false and apologised to the people of Imota.”

Jimoh also noted that the police had debunked the alleged incident, confirming that no such case was reported in the community.

She called on residents to continue their lawful activities without fear, while staying security conscious and reporting suspicious movements to security agencies.

She reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment for residents, students and businesses in the area.
