INEC Declares Faduyile Winner Of Ondo South Senatorial Poll

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Adedayo Faduyile, has been declared winner of the Ondo South Senatorial bye-election held on Saturday.

Faduyile was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission at the collation centre in Okitipupa, after polling 68,474 votes to defeat candidates of other political parties, including the APM, APP and Boot Party.

The Returning Officer for the exercise, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, announced the result, stating that the APC candidate satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast.

Faduyile, a former National President of the Nigerian Medical Association, is also a Special Adviser on Health to the Ondo State Governor prior to his election into the Senate.

Although details of the total votes scored by other candidates were not immediately made available, the bye-election was contested by at least four political parties.

The poll comes amid concerns over low voter turnout and economic hardship raised by some stakeholders ahead of the exercise.
