The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the June 20, 2026 bye-elections scheduled to hold in four senatorial districts, one House of Representatives constituency and one state assembly constituency across the country.
The elections are expected to fill vacant seats in the National Assembly and state legislature following resignations, deaths and other developments that created vacancies in the affected constituencies.
According to the list released by the electoral commission, four candidates will contest the Ondo South Senatorial District seat. They are Adesanya Olaoluwa of the Action People’s Party (APP), Faduyile Francis Adedayo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwumi Adeolu Harrison of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), and Nejo Funso Clement of the Boot Party (BP).
In Nasarawa North Senatorial District, the APC has nominated Halilu Danladi Envwulu-Aza, while the Labour Party (LP) is fielding Labaran Maku. The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has presented John Paul Araneshri, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate is Emmanuel David Ombugadu.
For the Rivers South East Senatorial District election, Douglas Fabeeke Beeka will contest on the platform of the Action Alliance (AA), Osarosaka Ebenezer Erewari represents the APC, Sam Kinanee Barikpoa flies the LP flag, while Nwogu Olaka Johnson is the PDP candidate.
In Enugu North Senatorial District, Asogwa Ikeje Israel will represent the APC, Aneke Kingsley Chukwuebuka will contest on the platform of the Boot Party, while Ezeme Nestor Chika is the PDP candidate.
For the Kebbi State House of Assembly bye-election in Zuru Constituency, Garba Aiki Rabiu will contest under the APC, while Aliyu Galadima Muhammad is the Labour Party candidate.
Similarly, three candidates will vie for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in Kano State. They are Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC, Lawan Garba Haruna of the APM, and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of the Labour Party.
Political parties and candidates are expected to intensify campaigns ahead of the polls as stakeholders prepare for what observers describe as a crucial test of political strength in the affected constituencies.
INEC has repeatedly assured voters of its readiness to conduct free, fair and credible elections, while urging political parties and their supporters to adhere strictly to electoral guidelines and maintain peace throughout the campaign period and on election day.
