KATSINA, NIGERIA — The wife of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has reportedly regained her freedom after being released by the kidnappers who abducted the couple in Katsina State. The abductors have also handed over the body of the late retired military officer to his family for burial.

Family sources confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that preparations were underway for the funeral of the late general in Katsina State in accordance with Islamic rites.

Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, was abducted alongside his wife by armed bandits while travelling through a community in Katsina State in late May. The incident attracted widespread attention across the country due to the retired officer’s distinguished military career and the growing insecurity affecting parts of northern Nigeria.

Following news of his death, condolences poured in from military personnel, government officials, community leaders, and concerned Nigerians who described the incident as a tragic loss for the nation.

The release of his wife has brought some relief to the grieving family, although the circumstances surrounding the abduction and the general’s death have continued to generate public concern. Security analysts say the incident highlights the persistent threat posed by kidnapping and banditry in several parts of the country.

Funeral arrangements are expected to take place in Katsina, where family members, friends, and associates will gather to pay their final respects to the late military officer.
