“Kwankwaso’s Son Picked” — Kano NDC Governorship Candidate Aminu Gwarzo Names Mustapha Kwankwaso As Running Mate

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has picked Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Mustapha Kwankwaso is the immediate past Commissioner for Youths and Sports in the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He resigned from the Kano State Government after the political fallout between Governor Yusuf and Senator Kwankwaso, and followed his father’s political camp.

The development was confirmed on Monday by the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Habibu Saleh Mohammed, in a brief statement.

“HE Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo unveiled Hon Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate for 2027 Governorship Election,” the statement read.

Gwarzo’s choice of Mustapha Kwankwaso is expected to strengthen the NDC ticket within the Kwankwasiyya political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

The move also signals a deeper realignment in Kano politics following the reported split between Governor Yusuf and Senator Kwankwaso, whose political movement has remained a major force in the state.

Further details on the unveiling and the party’s campaign plans are expected to be announced later.
