The Lagos State Police Command has refuted reports alleging that a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Khan Salihu, was abducted by suspected criminals before his death, describing the claim as false, misleading and entirely fabricated.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command said it was compelled to correct what it called a “reckless and highly irresponsible publication” circulating on social media and some online platforms, which claimed the senior officer was kidnapped prior to his demise.
The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said the report had no basis in fact and should be disregarded in its entirety.
According to the Command, DCP Salihu was never abducted at any time before his death and had no link to any criminal incident as alleged in the report.
“For the avoidance of doubt, DCP Khan Salihu was never kidnapped at any time prior to his demise. The report is entirely false, misleading and a complete fabrication,” the statement read.
The police explained that the senior officer had briefly complained of ill health and was immediately rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
It added that despite efforts by medical personnel, he was confirmed dead on arrival.
“Sadly, upon arrival, medical doctors confirmed him dead,” the Command stated.
The police further stressed that at no point was the deceased officer abducted, kidnapped, or involved in any incident connected to criminal activity, insisting that the viral report was malicious and misleading.
Describing the publication as insensitive, the Command said it was particularly unfortunate that such claims were being circulated while the family, colleagues, and the police hierarchy were mourning the late officer, whom it described as dedicated and professional.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the report and rely only on verified official communication.
