MAGA goes gaga for Trump’s 80th birthday: From ‘Biden could never’ to ‘gift’ of Knicks NBA title

On his 80th birthday Sunday, President Donald Trump was showered with effusive tributes from across the MAGA universe, as officials and media figures alike rushed to celebrate the Republican leader — now the second octogenarian to occupy the Oval Office.

Many echoed Trump’s own rhetorical style, deploying lavish, over-the-top language that highlighted everything from his work ethic to his golf game.

The messages poured in as the billionaire president announced that a peace deal with Iran had been reached, and later as he attended UFC Freedom 250, a series of cage matches held in an octagon erected on the White House lawn.

“Happy birthday to the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF DONALD J. TRUMP,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on X alongside a 30-second montage of Trump saluting, shaking hands and dancing.

Most Cabinet officials followed suit, with several noting how honored they’ve been to work under him.

“America is lucky to have a leader with such incredible courage, remarkable strength, an unmatched sense of humor, and an unparalleled love of country,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on X, while Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick chimed in: “Happy Birthday to my friend and leader, President Donald J. Trump. It has been the greatest privilege of my life to know and serve you in this historic administration.”

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., meanwhile, praised Trump’s “unwavering leadership” and “tireless dedication to protecting our children,” while adding: “It is a privilege to serve in your Cabinet.”

Among other prominent well-wishers, a recurring theme emerged: the president’s health. Despite entering his eighth decade — and persistent concerns from critics over his bruised hands, swollen ankles and apparent day-time drowsiness — supporters insist he remains a bastion of vitality.

“Your energy and enthusiasm is unparalleled, and will pay great dividends for our country,” Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, wrote on X. “On the golf course, you’ve never been stronger. Nothing but fairways and greens! Enjoy my friend!”

The senator’s comments came just days after he praised Trump as being “not far behind God.”

Mike Waltz, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, added that “At 80 years old, President Trump still fights for this country harder than most people half his age.” Laura Loomer, an influential MAGA activist, kept the theme going, this time taking a shot at Trump’s Democratic predecessor.

“Happy 80th Birthday to President Trump,” she wrote on X. “I hope he has the best day. It is truly remarkable we have a President who is so unbelievably fast and active at 80 years old. Very impressive. Biden could never.”

Others in the Republican online ecosystem even linked the president’s birthday to the 2026 NBA Championship, which the New York Knicks won on Saturday.

“Knicks win their first title in over 50 years just minutes before Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. What a gift,” influencer Johnny Maga wrote on X.

Some Republicans, however, kept their birthday messages short — and vaguely threatening.

“Happy 80th president trump,” Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, 92, wrote on social media. “You will never catch me.”

Some Democrats, meanwhile, carried an altogether different tune.

“Happy eight decades around the sun to America’s biggest loser, @realDonaldTrump,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a post. “You can blow out the candles, but you can’t wish away the damage.”
