“One of the women noticed blood on a mattress and raised the alarm. We went inside and found bloodstains and a foul smell. We immediately became suspicious. We also remembered that the young man had disappeared that morning after his grandfather’s funeral, which heightened our suspicions.

We decided to search the house thoroughly. As we inspected one of the rooms, we noticed a section of the floor that had been dug up and covered with fresh sand that had been sprinkled with water. When we stepped on the spot, the ground felt unusually soft. We realised something was terribly wrong,” he said.

Ironically, the son who had allegedly murdered his father and buried him there had been among the people helping us search for the missing man. He even accompanied us to the police station and appeared deeply saddened, making us believe he was grieving with the rest of us,” Mwendadi said.
