The London Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent manhunt for Temitope Segun, a 25-year-old Nigerian national who escaped from a custodial transport van in the Plumstead area of South East London.
The escape occurred on Monday evening, June 8, 2026, triggering a major security operation across local communities.
Segun was last spotted near Woolwich High Street at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Monday.
At the time of his escape, he was reportedly wearing a black jacket, black trousers, and black trainers.
Police have warned members of the public not to approach him if spotted and instead contact emergency services immediately.
Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning, who is leading the search, said: “My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun.
“It is imperative that the public contact police via 999 if they see him – or know where he may be.
“He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black trousers and black trainers and has links across South London.”
Authorities have urged anyone with information on Segun’s whereabouts to call 999, quoting reference number 2270/10JUN.

The search comes amid heightened attention on prison escape cases in the UK following separate reports involving inmates who evaded custody under different circumstances.
