“More Than Five Years, I’ve Been Stealing From The Business” — Hotel Worker Confesses as ₦17.6 Million Is Traced to Personal Account

A hotel employee identified as Yokonta Friday has confessed to diverting business proceeds for years, admitting that members of the housekeeping department were involved in a scheme to underreport revenue generated from room sales.

In a recorded statement, Friday admitted that he had been ste@ling from the business.

“I Yokonta Friday I’m saying now that for the past five years I’ve been stealing from Davies hotel, I’ve been selling rooms, I’ve been collecting money from guests and transferring to the money to my account and I’ve been the one giving the remaining people money and I’ve been the one majorly doing it for the past five years”.

According to him, the proceeds were shared among several individuals, with him and one other person taking “the lion’s share” while others also received portions of the funds.

“When we get the money I and Mr. Wale takes the lion’s share and Mr Salami also takes part of the lion share and we share the remaining ine ti the remaining people” he said.

Friday further claimed that the practice was widespread within the housekeeping department.

“Basically, knows about it. Everyone in the housekeeping knows about it,” he stated.

Providing an update on the ongoing investigation, he revealed that a review of his bank records uncovered significant cash transactions.

“I’ve built a house from it and from May Last year to June This year a total of ₦17.6 million passed through my account”.
