Mother Sentenced to 50 Years for Shooting 13-Year-Old Daughter in the Neck

A 33-year-old woman, Talecka C. Brown, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, and using a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the shooting of her then 13-year-old daughter.

According to authorities, the incident occurred in September 2024 following an argument between Brown and her daughter. During the confrontation, Brown shot the teenager in the back of the neck.

Announcing the sentence, Prince George’s County State’s Attorney described the crime as a devastating betrayal of a child who should have received love, care, and protection from her mother. She said the punishment reflects the seriousness of the offense and the lasting trauma suffered by the victim.
