A shocking incident happened in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. A mother of five named Blessings, originally from Akwa Ibom State, allegedly beat her 21-year-old daughter and tore off her clothes in public. Why? Because the daughter said she was pregnant by their landlord.
The video of the incident has caused a lot of debate. Some people criticize the mother for humiliating her daughter. Others feel sorry for her anger and frustration.
Blessings explained that she had been worried for months. According to her, the landlord often took her daughter out without asking. He would buy her gifts. Sometimes Blessings would return from the market and find her daughter gone. Neighbors and her younger child would tell her the landlord took the daughter shopping. When Blessings confronted him, he denied doing anything wrong.
The situation got worse when the daughter, age 21, announced her pregnancy and said the landlord was the father. The daughter told her mother that the landlord had sex with her twice at a hotel without protection.
Feeling hurt and desperate, Blessings admitted she beat and stripped her daughter. She cried, saying she has five children, no husband, and asked who would take care of this new baby.
Blessings has now reported the case to the police. The landlord has been arrested for questioning. Public opinion is still divided. Some say the landlord is fully to blame. But many think the mother’s actions tearing off her daughter’s clothes in public were too cruel and degrading. The police are still investigating.
