A Nigerian man, Princewill, has confirmed that GTBank refunded the ₦5.3 million that had been missing from his account after days of complaints and a viral protest at one of the bank’s branches.
Princewill had earlier accused the bank of withholding his funds after a transfer meant for a patient’s hospital bills failed to reach the recipient despite his account being debited. According to him, repeated calls to customer care did not resolve the issue, prompting him to publicly call out the bank.
At the time, he wrote:
“My fellow Nigerians, help me please. GTBank wants to arrest me. They have been holding my 5 million naira for two weeks. I have called customer care several times.”
The issue gained widespread attention after Princewill staged a live protest at a GTBank branch, drawing support from members of the public and sparking conversations about customer service and unresolved banking disputes.
Providing an update on Wednesday morning, Princewill announced that the money had finally been returned.
“GTBank has refunded my ₦5.3 million this morning around 8am.”
