This comes days after one concerned woman shared a video online in an effort to pressure the authorities to act swiftly and help identify the child and trace her family, as her body had been in the river for a fortnight.

Speaking after identifying her body at the Nairobi City Mortuary, Michelle Ndunge, the bereaved mum, said her child went missing on a Saturday, while playing with her friends.

“I had just picked her from the daycare that day, and we went home. Another child, her friend, also came over, and I opened the door. Moments later, a neighbour came and told me that my child had fallen into the river. I rushed to the river, and I did not find her in it,” she said while breaking into tears.

Two suspects are currently being held in connection with the death of Michelle’s child.

A family member said they do not understand how the child ended up in the river, since it is 100 metres from their home.

“As a family, we believe that something fishy happened and we want thorough investigations,” he said, adding that they are awaiting autopsy results.
