Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Republic of Poland aimed at strengthening internal security, immigration management, border protection, and emergency response systems across the country.
The agreement was reached following high-level discussions between Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Poland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michal Cygan, in Abuja.
According to officials, the partnership is designed to enhance collaboration in key areas of internal security, including border control, migration management, correctional services reforms, civil defence operations, and emergency management. The initiative is expected to support Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to modernize its security institutions and improve service delivery across agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
Speaking during the engagement, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of international partnerships in addressing contemporary security challenges. He noted that Nigeria could benefit significantly from Poland’s experience in institutional reforms, technological innovation, and public administration.
The minister stated that the collaboration would provide opportunities for technical exchanges, capacity-building programmes, professional training, and the sharing of best practices between agencies of both countries.
“Our goal is to strengthen the institutions responsible for internal security and ensure they are equipped with the knowledge, technology, and expertise needed to effectively serve Nigerians,” he said.
The partnership is expected to focus on improving the efficiency of immigration systems, enhancing border surveillance and management capabilities, and strengthening the operations of correctional and civil defence services.
