The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers in Ijebu-Ode who are allegedly linked to the abduction and murder of two hostages in Edo State.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command following an intelligence-led operation carried out in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with a kidnapping incident that occurred in the Okada area of Edo State, where two victims were reportedly abducted and later killed by their captors.
The police disclosed that the suspects are believed to be members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate that has been under investigation by security agencies.
During a search conducted after their arrest, officers recovered a police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones. Investigators believe the recovered items could provide crucial evidence that may help uncover the activities of the criminal network and lead to the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang.
The Ogun State Police Command stated that although the suspects were arrested within Ogun State, the crimes under investigation were allegedly committed in Edo State. As a result, arrangements are being made to transfer the suspects and all recovered exhibits to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to combating violent crimes. He reiterated the command’s resolve to ensure that Ogun State does not become a safe haven for criminals seeking to evade justice.
The Commissioner also assured residents that the police would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery, and related crimes across the state.
He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that can assist law enforcement agencies in tracking down criminal elements.
