A family has been thrown into mourning following the unfortunate death of their loved one just months before his long-awaited ceremony.

Mathias Ssali, a seminary student from Uganda, had successfully completed his Theology III studies and was eagerly awaiting ordination as a deacon.
When did Ssali return home?
He had completed his pastoral formation at St. Paul’s National Major Seminary in Kinyamasika and had returned home on Friday, May 22.

What makes the tragedy even more painful is that he died at 29, the same age at which both his mother and elder brother died, leaving the family in sorrow.
“Join us in thanking God for his giftedness and openness to formation, as well as his dedicated service in the seminary. We pray for the peaceful repose of his soul as we condole with his family and the Diocese of Masaka,” a statement read.
Seminarian John Vianney Ssebutemba recounts Ssali’s last words
Ssali was described as a committed and active student who served in various capacities, including overseeing the seminary grotto and serving as student leader of Cardinal Wamala House.
Prior to his death, Ssali fell ill, but his family did not know that his illness would be fatal, just before his next spiritual step.
Seminarian John Vianney Ssebutemba recounted Ssali’s last and painful words before he passed away.
“Dear brother, the dream has failed for me, but for you, do not give up. When you finally get there, I will also be there,” Ssali said.

University student collapses, dies before graduation
