Police arrest four suspected fraudsters with fake dollar bills in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected fraudsters and recovered 1,600 counterfeit United States dollar notes during an intelligence-led operation in Asaba.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to him, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched surveillance on a five-man syndicate following credible intelligence linking the group to fraudulent activities involving fake US dollar bills.

Edafe said: “On June 9, 2026, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, commenced surveillance on a five-man syndicate reportedly involved in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public using counterfeit United States dollar bills while operating in a red unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV.”

The operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road in Asaba.

Edafe said: “The intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma, and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road, Asaba.”

He added that the suspects made useful confessional statements during interrogation.

Edafe said: “During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to operating from a hideout in Asaba.”

Following the arrest, police operatives carried out a raid on the hideout where additional exhibits were recovered.

He said: “A follow-up operation was immediately conducted at the location, where operatives recovered 1,600 counterfeit United States Dollar notes and military camouflage concealed within the premises.”

The police spokesman said investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and track down other members of the group.

In a separate operation carried out on Tuesday, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit stormed Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area and arrested two women over alleged drug-related activities.

The suspects, identified as Ifeoma Egbule, 36, and Anayeokwu Florence, 51, were allegedly found with quantities of suspected illicit substances including GH Gold, Colorado, Cannabis and Canadian Loud.

Police said preliminary findings showed the suspects were involved in the distribution of the substances within the area.

The command added that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the drug distribution network.

Commending the operatives, Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi praised their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.
