The incident occurred amid fears and unconfirmed reports of bandit attack in some community in Ebonyi.

The police command in Ebonyi State has confirmed an attack on students of the School of Health Technology, Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state by suspected hoodlums.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abakaliki, said the command had commenced investigations into the attack

Mr Ukandu, a superintendent of police, said the attack, which left about seven students injured, occurred at about 2 00 a.m. on Tuesday.

He said the assailants invaded the students’ hostels and dispossessed them of their mobile phones and power banks.

According to him, about seven students sustained varying degrees of injuries during the encounter with the attackers.

He added that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, assuring residents and students that the command was committed to ensuring their safety.

The police spokesman urged members of the public to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in tracking down the suspects.

The incident occurred amid fears and unconfirmed reports of bandit attack in some community in Ebonyi.

Mr Ukandu, on Monday, dismissed the reports on social media that bandits and herders invaded the Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area of the state.

He described the report of a bandit attack as “false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.”

Attacks by kidnappers and bandits around Nigeria have heightened insecurity and tension in the country.
