The Lagos State Police Command has come out to clarify that the incident that occurred in the Mushin area of Lagos on Monday was a mechanical explosion and not an att@ck involving an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, as had been widely speculated.
Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, stated that thorough investigations carried out by security operatives revealed no evidence connecting the incident to any form of explosive att@ck.
The command disclosed that forensic examinations conducted at the scene returned no traces of explosive substances, detonators, initiation mechanisms, explosive residues, or any other materials commonly associated with b0mb explosions.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicated that the incident was triggered by a sudden release of pressure from a mechanical component located outside the affected vehicle.
The force added that the pressure impact caused the front passenger-side glass panels of the vehicle to shatter, leaving the occupant with minor injuries.
Following the conclusion of the investigation, the command officially classified the occurrence as a mechanical explosion and moved to reassure residents that there was no indication of t3rrorism or any coordinated explosive att@ck linked to the incident.
The command also urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could trigger unnecessary panic.
