Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons after a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The operation, which was carried out on Saturday evening, led to the killing of two suspected kidnappers, while two firearms were recovered from the gang.
Security sources confirmed that the victims were rescued alive at about 7:30pm, three days after they were abducted on June 3 while they were on their way to school in Ibadan.
According to police sources, the rescue followed sustained intelligence gathering, tracking of the suspects’ movements, and a coordinated tactical operation by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
It was gathered that pressure mounted on the kidnappers after days of surveillance, forcing them into a confrontation with security operatives, which ultimately led to a gun duel in which two members of the gang were neutralised.
The rescued victims—Mrs. John-Paul and her twin sons, Peter and Paul—were said to have been found unharmed and have since been reunited with their family.
However, some members of the kidnapping syndicate reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries, prompting a continued manhunt by security agencies across parts of Oyo State and neighbouring areas.
The abduction had triggered widespread concern after armed men intercepted the victims on the morning of June 3 while they were travelling in Ibadan. Eyewitnesses had earlier described the incident as a coordinated attack that left residents in shock.
Following the incident, the family of Adelabu had confirmed the abduction, assuring the public that security agencies had been mobilised for their safe return.
Police authorities say operations are ongoing to dismantle the remaining members of the gang and curb further kidnapping incidents in the state.
