Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Bernardo Silva after completing rapid negotiations for the Manchester City midfielder.
The deal progressed swiftly, with discussions reportedly beginning just 36 hours before an agreement was reached between the club and the player.
Silva is expected to sign a two-year contract with the option of an additional year as he prepares to leave Manchester City when his current deal expires at the end of the month.
New Real Madrid manager José Mourinho is understood to have identified the Portugal international as a priority target as he continues shaping his squad ahead of the new season.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the breakthrough on X.
Romano wrote: “Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid, HERE WE GO! Agreement in place and contract approved.
“Two year deal plus one year option, fast deal by Madrid started 36h ago and closed immediately.
“Mourinho wanted Bernardo, he says yes and advanced talks revealed today are 100% confirmed.”
Silva had previously remained cautious when asked about his future amid links with several European clubs, including Barcelona.
He said: “Is it a dream? I’m not going to answer that because I don’t know where I’ll end up.
“[Barcelona] is an option I have, but I haven’t made that decision yet. We don’t know what will happen.”
Madrid’s move is seen as a significant victory over Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, both of whom had also been linked with the midfielder.
The Spanish giants are set to secure one of Europe’s most experienced midfielders without paying a transfer fee after Silva decided not to extend his stay at Manchester City.
The 31-year-old leaves the Premier League club after nine years, during which he won six league titles and the UEFA Champions League.
He departs the Etihad Stadium with 153 goal contributions and a reputation as one of the most influential midfielders of his generation.
An official announcement is expected after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Silva currently focused on Portugal’s campaign at the tournament.
Once confirmed, the midfielder will become part of Mourinho’s latest project at the Santiago Bernabéu as Madrid look to compete for major honours at home and in Europe.
