Friends and family of the eight friends who sadly died during a crash at Salama on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway on Sunday, June 7, have held a candlelight vigil to mourn their people.

The 33 people had hired a matatu to visit a family of their own in Kibwezi, and everything went well until the accident involving 27 colleagues happened while they were returning from the parental visit where they had gone to seek blessings.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the twenty-seven critically injured victims were rushed to the hospital and rescue operations concluded nearly six hours after the collision, causing major traffic disruptions.

How are the burials of the 8 Salama friends?

Stanley Mutisya shared an emotional account of the event and loss of close friends, and many people sympathised with him. Community members expressed grief and condolences on social media in memory of the victims who died.

“Hundreds of mourners assembled at the EPZ area during the candle lighting of our colleagues who lost their lives during a tragic road accident at Mombasa Road. It was an emotional ceremony as we recalled how death took them so so soon,” said Kenyatta Muli, who attended.

“Now funeral arrangements are in going to rest as per arrangements, Willy,Rose Kasyoka and Lillian will be laid to rest on Saturday. Jane will be buried on June 27, while Lillian on June 26 and not Saturday,”he added.

Kenyans mourn driver perished in Salama accident

In an earlier story, many people came out to mourn Chirchir, the matatu driver who was driving on the fateful day that many people lost their lives.

It turned to tragedy when Chirchir got into an accident when his matatu rammed into a trailer and caused an accident.

The community mourned and shared heartfelt tributes for the victims while calling for more information on the injured who were taken to the hospital.
