Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has claimed that Islamophobia is now shaping political decisions in the South-West, alleging that he was unfairly pulled into their “dirty local politics” during a recent visit to Ibadan.
The Islamic cleric, who has faced widespread criticism over his past comments on bandits and terrorists, now says his presence in the South-West was deliberately politicised.
He insisted he came only as a representative of the Coalition of Northern Muslim Ulama and not at the invitation of any South-West Muslim group.
Gumi also questioned: “Can anybody stop me from going anywhere in Nigeria?” He further alleged that foreign and local interests are orchestrating the controversy to deepen divisions in the country.
