The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said electricity consumers in parts of Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi and Yobe states would experience a four-hour power outage on Sunday.
The planned power supply disruption is due to a scheduled maintenance at its Kumbotso 330kV transmission substation, the company said in a statement on Friday.
The TCN said the maintenance exercise will take place from 9 am to 1 pm at the substation in Kano on June 28.
The statement read: “The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, wishes to inform the public of a scheduled maintenance at its Kumbotso 330kV Transmission Substation on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
” The scheduled maintenance is to enable TCN contractor continue the ongoing upgrade of 330kV bus I jumpers, replace the existing 350mm conductors with 800mm2 conductors in order to strengthen the transmission network and improve power reliability.
“As a result, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and some part of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) will be unable to off-take power for distribution to their customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States, as well as Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State and also Gazaoua in Niger Republic.”
