Residents and transport operators have expressed relief after a lorry that was hijacked in Thika two days ago was successfully recovered following a coordinated police operation.

Authorities confirmed that the vehicle, which had been en route before it was seized by unknown assailants, was traced to Nakuru where the suspects allegedly attempted to conceal its identity.

According to Sikika Road Safety, the criminals changed its number plates from KDT 461N to KDP 802N and repainted the lorry in an apparent bid to erase any trace of the original ownership.

Police officers from Baharini Police Station acted on intelligence reports and launched an undercover operation that led to the recovery of the vehicle.

One suspect was arrested at the scene, while another managed to escape and is currently being pursued by law enforcement officers.

The recovered lorry was reportedly on its way towards the Uganda border, where the suspects are believed to have planned to dispose of it.

Confirming the incident, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Baharini, Abdikadir, praised the coordinated effort that led to the recovery and arrest.

He noted that investigations are ongoing to track down the remaining suspect and dismantle the wider network behind the theft.

The vehicle has since been secured at Baharini Police Station as investigations continue.

Police officers involved in the operation have been commended for their swift response, alongside members of the public who shared crucial information that aided the recovery.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activity, noting that community cooperation remains key in curbing vehicle theft syndicates.
