Vicoty left Kenya for Beirut, Lebanon, as a domestic worker in November 2023, hoping for a better future.
All was well during her one-year-and-four-month contract, which ended in 2025. Her family expected her to return home immediately, but her employer allegedly held her back and prevented her from leaving.
Her sister, Winnie Jerop, told NGBREAKINGNEWS that Vicoty suddenly went silent and could no longer communicate with the family as she usually did.

“She last spoke to us in March and April 2025. Her voice gave us hope that she was still alive and still fighting, but from May there was nothing, no calls, no messages, no trace of her,” Winnie said at the time.
Her family sought help through various channels in the hope of finding her safe and bringing her back home.
Fortunately, their efforts and prayers bore fruit as the young woman was eventually found and reunited with her family.
Winnie shared her joy online, posting photos of herself receiving her sister at the airport to mark her return.
What happened to Vicoty Cheruto in Lebanon?
Winnie revealed that Vicoty had been in prison during the months her family had been searching for her.
“All the way from Lebanon to Kenya, a contract that turned into more than a year in prison. May God bless everyone who played a part in her rescue. We thank God she arrived safely, even though she is not yet fully herself,” Winnie stated.

Vicoty also expressed her gratitude to her family and everyone who took the time to support her case and help secure her return.
She acknowledged the hardships she endured over the past months, saying she was simply grateful to be back with her loved ones.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support you gave me and my mum. Being here today is because of you. It was not easy, but I thank God for bringing me back home alive. The journey was very difficult, but God was with me. Thank you once again. I am happy to be home. Let me thank all those who left their work to support my family and ensure I got out of that prison, including Wakili Jemutai, DK MP Soy, Winnie Jerop and Tony the Photographer. I am truly grateful for everything. I may not have anything to give you, but God will reward you. I love you all so much,” she shared.
Images from the airport captured the emotional moment Vicoty reunited with her family.
