US Deports Nigerian Over Domestic Violence, Other Conviction

The United States authorities have deported a Nigerian national, Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, following a string of criminal convictions, including domestic violence and related offences.

The deportation was disclosed by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.

According to the agency, Ajayi entered the United States in 2007 on a student visa but failed to leave after discontinuing his studies, thereby violating the terms of his stay.

ICE stated that rather than depart the country as required, the Nigerian remained in the US and built what it described as a “lengthy rap sheet.”

The agency said his convictions include domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation, and obstruction, adding that his criminal history also featured charges bordering on kidnapping, rape, and family neglect.

“Instead of leaving after abandoning his studies, he stayed and engaged in criminal activities,” the statement noted.

The agency attributed Ajayi’s removal to the immigration enforcement drive under the administration of Donald Trump, which has prioritised the deportation of undocumented migrants with criminal records.

“Thanks to @POTUS’ commitment to removing criminal illegal aliens, Ajayi will be leaving the United States,” ICE stated.

However, the agency did not disclose the exact date the deportation was carried out or provide details of the jurisdictions where the offences were committed.

Ajayi’s deportation comes amid intensified enforcement actions by US immigration authorities targeting foreign nationals with criminal convictions, as part of broader efforts to tighten border control and internal compliance.

The development underscores Washington’s continued crackdown on undocumented immigrants, particularly those implicated in criminal activities, with deportations expected to rise under current policies.
