The US has lifted its maritime blockade on Iran, allowing vessels to freely enter and exit Iranian ports and coastal areas as part of the interim agreement, US CENTCOM said Thursday, June 18.
“Our great Naval Ships will remain in the general area to make sure that all aspects of the agreement are adhered to, obeyed and in full force and effect,” it said on X.
According to the statement, US forces are no longer impeding maritime traffic to or from Iranian ports, and all military blockade enforcement operations have ceased.
The move is a step forward in implementing the deal that is expected to restore normal shipping through Iranian waters and ease disruptions to global energy trade. At the same time, Iran had agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and make “best efforts” to restore shipping traffic to pre-war levels.
