A video report by Ramogi TV has revealed the devastating aftermath inside the ill-fated Meline Waithera Dormitory, offering a glimpse into the destruction left behind by the deadly blaze.
The dormitory, still bearing the scars of that horrific night, stood silent and charred in the wake of the fire.
Rows of metal beds had been burnt black, with some twisted and broken by the intense heat. There were no mattresses or bedding in sight — an unsettling scene for what was once a home to hundreds of students.
The walls were blackened by smoke, while the remains of suitcases belonging to students lay scattered across the floor. Some of the damaged belongings remained on the metallic bed frames, serving as painful reminders of the lives disrupted by the tragedy.
Burnt blankets and buckets littered the wet and dirty floor, confronting anyone who stepped inside the Meline Waithera Dormitory with the grim reality of what had occurred.

Even the CCTV cameras were destroyed by the flames, alongside countless other items in the vast dormitory that once accommodated up to 250 students.
Some beds were arranged in cubicles while others were placed in the main hall, a layout that has raised concerns about possible congestion within the dormitory.
Further highlighting the extent of the destruction, the footage also showed the students’ bathroom block, which had been severely damaged by the fire. The sinks were covered with burnt debris and dirt, while several bathroom doors appeared barely able to remain standing.
Outside the dormitory, empty fire extinguishers and buckets lay scattered across the compound — a stark indication of the desperate efforts made by students and staff to contain the inferno and save lives.
What was once a lively dormitory filled with laughter, friendship and youthful dreams has now been transformed into a haunting reminder of a tragedy that cut short the lives of 16 young girls, leaving families, friends and an entire nation in mourning.
