Wike apologises, takes responsibility for cattle roaming Abuja + Video

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly apologized and accepted responsibility for the continued presence of cattle roaming the streets and major roads across Abuja.

He however admitted that the situation persists despite ongoing efforts to improve the capital city.

Wike spoke on Monday during his monthly media briefing in Abuja.

He expressed regret over the development and assured residents that the administration is working to address it.

“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja; I take responsibility,” the minister said.

He said the FCT administration is intensifying infrastructure development across the territory, stressing that attention is not limited to the city centre but extends to satellite towns and area councils.

According to him, ongoing projects cut across key sectors, including road construction, water supply, and housing.

“Our attention is not only on developing the city centres of Abuja. We are also working in all the Area Councils. We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT,” he said.

Wike also disclosed that project inaugurations would be carried out in partnership with President Bola Tinubu as part of activities marking the administration’s third year in office.

“To celebrate Mr President’s three years in office, the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days commencing June 8, 2026,” he said.

He maintained that completed and ongoing road projects have improved connectivity and enhanced security in several communities across the FCT.

The presence of roaming cattle on Abuja roads has remained a recurring concern for residents, who often complain about safety risks and obstruction of traffic.

Wike also said residents are beginning to feel the impact of ongoing reforms and infrastructure development under the Tinubu administration.
