A 45-year-old man, Micheal Aduragbemi, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly obtaining ₦3 million under the pretext of securing a Kuwait work visa.
Aduragbemi is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The police prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences with other persons who are currently at large.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences occurred between July and August 2025 at the Magbon area of Imeke, Badagry.
Ekpo alleged that Aduragbemi and his accomplices conspired to obtain money by false pretence from the complainant, Funke Adeyinka.
The defendant allegedly collected ₦3 million from Adeyinka after promising to process a Kuwait work visa for her, despite allegedly knowing that the representation was false.
The prosecution further alleged that Aduragbemi stole the money belonging to the complainant.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate N.A. Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in the same amount.
The magistrate directed that one of the sureties must be a recognised community leader.
The second surety is required to present evidence of tax payments, bank statements covering the preceding six months and proof of means.
The case was adjourned until July 22, 2026, for hearing.
