A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Jurm, Afghanistan, on Wednesday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.
According to the USGS, the quake occurred at a depth of 216.7 km (134.65 miles).
There are no immediate reports of injuries, as the quake’s relative depth may have reduced the intensity of shaking at the surface, according to India Today.
This is the third earthquake in the region in a matter of days.
Afghanistan experienced one of the deadliest earthquakes in many years in September of 2025, when a magnitude 6.0 earthquake killed more than 2,000 people, according to Taliban authorities and Reuters.
“Afghanistan is among the world’s most earthquake-prone countries,” according to India Today. “Earthquakes are common in the Hindu Kush mountain range, where deep tremors are often felt across Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of Central Asia.”
