The Anambra State Police Command has clarified that its ongoing enforcement operation targeting vehicles with tinted windows is a security-driven exercise aimed at strengthening public safety and curbing criminal activities across the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said the exercise covers vehicles with tinted glass, whether or not the owners present tinted glass permits, as well as unregistered vehicles and those with concealed, covered, or defaced number plates.
According to the police, the operation is designed to verify the authenticity of tinted glass permits, identify forged or fraudulently obtained permits, ensure compliance with vehicle registration and number plate regulations, and prevent criminals from exploiting such violations to evade identification.
The Command acknowledged that the exercise may cause temporary inconvenience to law-abiding residents but stressed that it has become necessary due to prevailing security concerns and the increasing use of such vehicles by criminal elements to conceal their identities and frustrate law enforcement efforts.
The police appealed to residents of Anambra State to remain patient and cooperate with security operatives, assuring the public that the exercise is being conducted solely in the interest of protecting lives, safeguarding property, and improving security across the state.
The statement reiterated the Command’s commitment to carrying out the enforcement professionally while urging motorists to comply with all relevant vehicle registration and identification requirements.
